WARNING: Johnson & Johnson Is Not Giving Away Baby Relief Kits

Baby products from Johnson & Johnson might be staples in several households, but sadly, the pharmaceutical giant is not giving away free baby relief kits on Facebook. As Hoax-Slayer pointed out, posts of this sort are a scam aimed at baiting Facebook users into participating in surveys.
According to Hoax-Slayer, posts along these lines (unedited) have been spreading on the social network:

Hello everyone …Johnson is giving a way free baby kits as samples

i got one for my baby ..i think this is limited offer and will not stay long time

just wanted to share it with you (link removed)

What happens next? According to Hoax-Slayer:

However, the promised prize is just a ruse to trick you into clicking the link. There is no prize. The link opens a fake Facebook page that includes steps that you are supposedly required to carry out in order to get your free baby kit.

The page first asks you to share the message on Facebook. It then claims that you must post the message on five Facebook groups before you can proceed to claim your prize.

But even after you carry out these steps, you will still not get to claim your prize. Instead, you will be told that you must participate in one or more online surveys before claiming your baby relief kit. These surveys will try to get you to provide your mobile phone number to sign up for SMS subscriptions, ostensibly to allow you to get survey results or go in the draw for various prizes. Or, the surveys may ask you to provide your name and contact details.

Thus, victims may be faced with large phone bills for unwanted mobile phone services. Or, they may be inundated with unwanted promotional emails, phone calls, and junk mail.

Meanwhile, the scammers who created the bogus promotion will earn money through underhand affiliate marketing systems each time a victim participates in a survey or provides his or her personal details.

And, by tricking people into promoting their fake prize post via sharing and posting to groups, the scammers will receive a steady stream of new victims.

XOR and the one-time pad

Why must we use XOR?

Does it really matter if we used AND, OR or XOR with the one-time pad? The answer is yes, and it’s extremely important to understand why. Recall from the previous article that AND has a 75% chance of outputting 0 and a 25% chance of outputting a 1. While OR has a 25% chance of outputting 0 and 75% chance of outputting 1. While the XOR operation has a 50% chance of outputting 0 or 1.
Let’s look at a visual example to see the different scrambling effects of AND vs. OR vs. XOR  by encrypting an image. Here is a digital image of Charles Babbage:

 

It contains thousands of tiny colored squares called pixels. Each pixel in this image can be represented as a 24 bit sequence as shown in the previous article. Let's call this our plaintext image (or message).

First let’s see what happens when we AND each bit in the image file with a stream of random bits.

Notice that the plaintext only shines through 50% of the time, which results in noise as each pixel is equally likely to be 0 or 1.
This image contains no information about the original image. If we didn’t provide the shift sequence it would be impossible for you to reverse it back to the original image. You could try every possible sequence, but that would result in every possible image! How could you know it was Babbage? It's equally likely to be a picture of you or anything else you can think of. 
Isn’t that interesting? Makes me smile everytime I see it!

That One Time I Got Made Up To Look Like Baby Jane’s Batshit Crazy Older Sister

Ever been on the road and realized you forgot your make up bag and started mentally kicking yourself, because that shizz is expensive to replace? I’ve been there – but there is a super cheap, if perhaps not the most sanitary, answer: kohl.

When I was visiting with the bedouin in Jordan, my friend Suleiman took me to see his (female) neighbor who decided that I needed some… beautifying.

“Women wear kohl for weddings,” Suleiman explained.

“Um, I’m not getting married anytime soon,” I said, kind of laughing, while looking around for an exit. “Really. I’m NOT.”

“It is not just for that,” Suleiman quickly added.

This is what I thought I was going to look like…

According to Suleiman, kohl around the eyes can do pretty much everything but watch your goats, including: protect your eyes from the sun, cure styes, and grow your eyelashes. I also started envisioning myself as Elizabeth Taylor/Cleopatra, so, I figured “why not?”

Suleiman’s neighbor then cooked up a batch of kohl by putting an iron pot over a burning fire, and scraping the blackened char off.

“That’s it?” I asked.

“That’s it,” Suleiman said as his neighbor came at me to apply it with a matchstick end.

“Oh well. I’ve come this far,” I thought. “I’ve had my tetanus shot and my health insurance is still active so… why not?”

Not exactly Elizabeth Taylor… but you get the idea.

I was just psyched that when she insisted on doing my eyebrows, the neighbor (who refused to be named or photographed due to her custom) didn’t give me a unibrow. I had enough of that in high school. Fun fact: Kohl doesn’t come off easily so you will have the Cleopatra look for about two days. Hot.

I later realized I looked familiar. Like I’d just been to a celebrity lookalike camp and drawn the short straw. I now present the evidence:

How to childbirth

The most prominent sign of labour are the strong contractile waves that move the infant down the birth canal. The distress levels reported by laboring women vary widely. They appear to be influenced by fear and anxiety levels, experience with prior childbirth, cultural ideas of childbirth and pain,^[3][4] mobility during labour, and the support received during labour. Personal expectations, the amount of support from caregivers, quality of the caregiver-patient relationship, and involvement in decision-making are more important in women's overall satisfaction with the experience of childbirth than are other factors such as age, socioeconomic status, ethnicity, preparation, physical environment, pain, immobility, or medical interventions.^[5]

Descriptions[edit]

Pain in contractions has been described as feeling similar to very strong menstrual cramps. Women are often encouraged to refrain from screaming, but moaning and grunting may be encouraged to help lessen pain. Crowning may be experienced as an intense stretching and burning. Even women who show little reaction to labour pains, in comparison to other women, show a substantially severe reaction to crowning.^[6]
Back labour is a term for specific pain occurring in the lower back, just above the tailbone, during childbirth.^[7]

Childbirth can be an intense event and strong emotions, both positive and negative, can be brought to the surface. Abnormal and persistent fear of childbirth is known as tokophobia.
During the later stages of gestation there is an increase in abundance of oxytocin, a hormone that is known to evoke feelings of contentment, reductions in anxiety, and feelings of calmness and security around the mate.^[8] Oxytocin is further released during labour when the fetus stimulates the cervix and vagina, and it is believed that it plays a major role in the bonding of a mother to her infant and in the establishment of maternal behavior. The act of nursing a child also causes a release of oxytocin.^[9]
Between 70% and 80% of mothers in the United States report some feelings of sadness or "baby blues" after giving birth. The symptoms normally occur for a few minutes up to few hours each day and they should lessen and disappear within two weeks after delivery.^[10] Postpartum depression may develop in some women; about 10% of mothers in the United States are diagnosed with this condition.
